10th December: Free Poetry Workshop for Young People & Parents Support Workshop
Are you 18 or under? Do you hear, see or sense things that other people don't? We're running a FREE poetry workshop to give you the chance to meet other young people with similar experiences.
Poetry isn’t just something written in books - people have been using words to express themselves for as long we’ve had them. Whether it’s on the stage, in music, in writing, or in person - poetry gives you the chance to share your experiences (of yourself and the world around you) to move, inspire, challenge or entertain.
This workshop features Jared Louche, a published poet, storyteller, rockstar & DJ from New York. He’s great at helping young people find their voice through spoken word - so we’re excited to be working with him.
Does your child hear voices?
We're running a support workshop for parents/family members/supporters at the same time and same venue as the acting workshop. Come and meet other parents/supporters whilst your child is busy having fun. This is time for you to chill out, share your experiences and learn some new tips for supporting your child.
When: Saturday 10th December, 1.30 - 4.30pm

Share your experience of getting help and support for hearing voices
An Invitation To Take Part in Research about the experiences of young people who hear voices, and their families, of mental health services and professionals
- Are you, or is a member of your family, a young person who hears voices?
- Have you met counsellors, doctors, psychologists or other professionals about this?
- Would you like to share these experiences to help people understand what this is like and how they can be more helpful
My name is Prerna Kapur. I am a student at the Anna Freud Centre and University College London. I am doing a study on the experiences of young people who hear voices and their families. I am trying to understand and gain knowledge about the professional help or mental health services that they have received, and whether it has been useful for them or not.
If you would like to take part, I will arrange to meet with you for an interview at a time and place that suits you. This is so that we can have a chat about your experiences of any help you, or your family member, have had for dealing with the voices. I'll ask some questions to help you tell your story, but the important thing is that it's YOUR story. You choose how much, or how little, you tell me. There are no right or wrong answers, I'm there to learn not judge.

Hywel Davies 2010 Award
We're really happy to tell you that the Voice Collective project has been awarded an international award! Rachel and Dzifa, the project team, attended the 2010 International Hearing Voices Congress in November and were suprised to find that they had been nominated for, and awarded, the Hywel Davies Award for the project's outstanding contribution to benefit voice-hearers.
The prize, £500, will be fed back into the project and help us to run a creative workshop for young people in February.
Rachel, project manager, was also given an individual award for her contribution to developing Hearing Voices Groups across London.
The congress was a wonderful event. We'll be adding some of the information we've learnt on here early in 2011.
Thanks to everyone for all your support!
