Getting Help Quickly

  • Childline and Samaritans

    If you’d like to speak to someone urgently who you don’t know, in confidence, you can ring Childline (0800 1111) or the Samaritans (116 123). You can also check out their websites by clicking on the links.

  • NHS 111

    If you’d like to see a medical professional to talk about how you’re feeling, you can speak to your GP or call NHS 111. NHS 111 is a non-emergency line, but they should be able to help you get the support you need and they are open 24 hours a day.

  • National Suicide Prevention

    The National Suicide Prevention Helpline UK offers a supportive listening service to anyone throughout the UK with thoughts of suicide or thoughts of self harm. They are open 24/7 on 0800 689 5652. Anybody is welcome to call them if you need to talk.

  • Papyrus

    Thinking about suicide? Are you, or is a young person you know, not coping with life? For confidential suicide prevention advice contact Papyrus - open 9am–midnight every day.

  • A&E

    If you need urgent medical help (e.g. if you have taken an overdose or hurt yourself, or you feel very suicidal) consider going to your local accident and emergency department. If this feels too overwhelming, call NHS 111 to tell them you need help and they should be able to help you through the process.
