Q: Are you a young person (under 19) who hears, sees or senses things around you that other’s don’t, experiences multiplicity, or has unusual beliefs?

Q: Would you like to try your hand at writing a song about your experiences such as voices or visions, or a song about what it’s like to be you?

Voice Collective has paired up with Raw Sounds to offer you this two-hour songwriting workshop for under-19s who hear voices, see visions, or have other sensory experiences, or experience mulptiplicity or unusual beliefs.

In the workshop, we will support you to write a song about your feelings, experiences, or what it’s like to be you! An experienced songwriter from Raw Sounds will be there to share her knowledge of songwriting and to support you to create your very own song, and the Voice Collective team will be on hand at all times for support and to chat about anything that comes up.

This workshop is a great opportunity to meet other young people who hear voices, who may be going through something similar to you, and to connect and chat to each other. Writing a song expressing what it’s like to be you is a great way to fight stigma about hearing voices, too!

About Raw Sounds:

Raw Sounds is the mental health programme at Raw Material, a music education charity in Brixton. In their high quality music studios, Raw Sounds deliver collaborative music making workshops including live music, studio recording, music production and DJing. Participants work on original tracks for 10 weeks, and then have the opportunity to perform at end of term gigs in local music venues. They run evening workshops for young people aged 16-30 as well as a community programme for ages 30-65.

Please note:

This workshop will support you to write your own song, rap or spoken word poem. There won’t be time or facilities in this workshop to record the song or create backing music, however if you are a young person with a care-coordinator and you want to continue working on your song after the workshop is over, you can be referred to Raw Sounds’ ten-week programme.
